Nowadays there are far fewer restrictions on women and how they can live their lives. One shining example is women in outer space. The first woman to go to space was Valentina Tereshkova, who flew on June 16, 1963. The first US woman followed suit in 1983, Sally Ride. The first woman of color to go to space was Dr. Mae Jemison, who made her flight in 1992. The WPO has the honor of hosting her as a keynote speaker in this year’s annual conference
These women offer inspiration to women everywhere who want to break into a traditionally-male field, whether it is medicine, science, or a top executive role in business. With determination and motivation, not even the sky is the limit.
