Discover Small Business Watch Surveys: the motivations of entrepreneurs

Discover Financial Services recently released the results of a series of Small Business Watch surveys the compile of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Overall, the surveys found what our members already know – that there is more freedom in running your own business and most of the time, more work.

The Discover Small Business Watch surveys found that of the small business owner respondents:

  • 61% said they would not give up the independence of running their own business to make more money working for someone else
  • 46 % said they started their own business to have more freedom or more flexible work schedules
  • 28% work at least six days a week
  • 52 % took off seven days or fewer for the year, compared with 36 % of the overall population
