BusinessWeek featured an interesting article recently on how business owners’ salaries can vary dramatically between industries and even within industries — based on the size and profitability of the companies.
from the piece…While there’s no standard percentage of income upon which to base an officer’s salary, most companies arrive at a figure based on the competitive rate of pay for people in similar jobs, in similar sales-volume companies, in the same industry.
Interestingly enough, the WPO held a Compensation survey in 2006 that evaluated how our Women Presidents/CEO’s compensated themselves. Highlights from the survey were as follows:
- More than half of respondents (56%) believe their salary is the same as their male counterparts.
- More than half (57%) of respondents routinely investigate and adjust salaries to ensure gender pay equity for positions of equal qualification and responsibility.
